How to prepare your wooden floor for a perfect Rubio Monocoat finish

Achieving a lasting, beautiful finish on your wooden floor relies on thorough preparation of your surfaces. Restoring tired, dull, and worn-out wooden flooring requires careful sanding to remove traces of wax, oil, and wood stain. Sanding the planks or wooden blocks with a Rotary Floor Scrubber using a P150 grit sanding disc will remove most of the dirt and grime. Corners and small areas can be sanded using a Handheld Sanding Block.

However, this sanding process will leave microscopic traces of dust, beeswax, and stain. So, it is essential to follow up with a good vacuum to ensure the wooden floor is in pristine condition. For final preparation, apply a deep cleaning agent such as Rubio Monocoat Cleaner. This will remove all remaining debris and return your floor to its original raw wood condition.

To ensure complete penetration and best results of your chosen Rubio Monocoat finish there is one further step to take – water popping! This also applies to brand-new untreated wooden flooring. To ensure that your ultimate finish coat glows with depth of colour, it is necessary to open up the natural wood grain. Water popping is done by lightly moistening the wooden surface with clean water using a spray mist and clean cloth. Water must be applied evenly and not allowed to pool on the floor. Allow up to 4 hours for complete drying and the surface is ready to receive the chosen Rubio Monocoat finish.
