The Ideal Cleaning Kit to Keep your Wooden Surface Looking Brand New

Bespoke wooden floors require care to keep them looking the best that they can be. Cleaners that aren’t designed for wooden floors may have adverse effects on its appearance, causing it to be dull, to warp, or even make it more dirty. That is why at Green Tin Oils, distributor of Rubio Monocoat, we have specially designed care products and cleaners that will leave your floor vibrant and hydrated, giving it a deep yet gentle clean. Below are the top 5 products that we would recommend to keep your wooden surfaces looking brand new.


  1. Perhaps the most necessary of all the cleaning products is the ‘Rubio Monocoat Universal Soap’. This soap is what you would use when you are mopping the floors. Dilute this in your mop bucket with warm water and mop the floor as usual. Leave the floors to dry and try to avoid stepping on them before they completely dry. This is a highly versatile product as you could also add it to a spray bottle with water to use on wooden surfaces. Use this product once a week or as needed. 

  2. Similar to the ‘Universal Soap’ is the ‘Rubio Monocoat Surface Care Spray’. This is a cleaning spray that you would use to wipe down your surfaces once a week. Again, this works better than a regular soap as it is gentle, safe and eco-friendly. To use, you would first wipe down the surface to get rid of any dust and debris. They spray the surface and wipe away using a microfibre cloth. Ensure that the surface is completely dry before using again. Use this product once a week or as needed to revitalise your space. 

  3. ‘Rubio Monocoat Deep Cleaner’ is a product that doesn’t need to be used frequently. In fact, some floors may never need it. This type of cleaner is for particularly dirty surfaces. An example would be a wooden floor that has had muddy shoes walking over it for the last 5 years. It is a highly concentrated solution that requires 95 parts water to 5 parts solution. Therefore, this product will only be used after a number of years, and not on a regular basis. To use, you must first clean the surface with just water and a mop or damp sponge. Then, apply the diluted ‘Deep Cleaner’ with a mop or sponge. Scrub the solution in using a nylon brush or microfibre pad, ensuring to work with the wood grain. Then, remove the residue with just water and a mop or damp sponge again. Leave to dry for at least 30 minutes. 

  4. We recommend that after using the ‘Rubio Monocoat Deep Cleaner’, a layer of ‘Rubio Monocoat Universal Maintenance Oil’ should be applied to the surface. As this is a deep cleaner, occasionally the floor might require an extra layer of protection and hydration to leave it looking fresh, vibrant and refined once again. Before use, ensure that the product is sufficiently mixed in order to achieve the best results. Apply a small amount of oil using a brush or pad. Work in small sections and spread evenly in the direction of the wood grain. Leave it to soak in for 10-15 minutes, and then wipe away with a dry cloth. 

  5. The final product in the ‘Ideal Cleaning Kit’ is the ‘Rubio Monocoat Tannin Remover’. This is the ideal product to deal with any dark stains on your wooden surfaces. This includes black spots caused by a wood's chemical reaction to metal. It works on a variety of tough stains ranging from tannin stains, rust spots and watermarks to even areas affected by pet urine. We recommend that you first try the ‘Universal Soap’ or the ‘Surface Care Spray’ first. If these are unsuccessful in lifting the stain, then spray the ‘Tannin Remover’ onto the affected area. Leave to sit for 2-3 minutes and then dab dry with a dry cloth or paper towel. You may repeat if you do not achieve the desired effect. After the stain is lifted, you may re-sand and re-oil the area if necessary.



These five products are highly recommended for the upkeep of your wooden surfaces. Wood doesn’t need 24/7 monitoring in order to remain in pristine condition, but rather some simple swaps - for instance, our wood-friendly ‘Universal Soap’ rather than an all-purpose floor cleaner - that keep your surfaces looking new, high quality and leave them durable.
