Varnish or Oiling? Here’s why we’re better.

If you have decided that you want to give your wooden surface a new look, you might now be wondering what product to use. There is a wide variety available to you, from creams and oils, to lacquers and varnishing. Choosing the right one will completely change how the wood looks. That’s why, at Green Tin Oils, we will highlight to you four reasons as to why our products are the clear winners. 

1. Over time, it’s natural for the product used on your wooden surface to deteriorate. However, the change is more gradual when you use our Rubio Monocoat oils and creams. Whilst our product will progressively get duller after a number of years, depending on the wear and tear, a varnish’s deterioration is more noticeable. It will scratch, chip and also dull over a period of years. This will make your surface look older, faster. This is why we suggest Rubio Monocoat, as the change is more gentle and less noticeable. 

2. If you have noticed a spot of damage on your floor, the treatment will be highly variable depending on which product you have used. For instance, if you notice, on a floor stained by Rubio Monocoat, that a particular area has become duller than elsewhere, an easy fix will simply involve a touch up with ‘Rubio Monocoat Universal Maintenance Oil’. This will instantly rehydrate the surface and bring back the colour. However, with a varnished surface, the maintenance is a lot more difficult. If you have noticed an area chipping or with scratches, you will have to strip the area or heavily sand before you can re-apply the varnish. This process can be time-consuming and require high amounts of effort. For lower maintenance, choose Rubio Monocoat.

3. For those of you searching for a quicker and easier application method, Rubio Monocoat is for you. The application for Rubio Monocoat is simple. It requires just one coat, with sanding only required before application and not between coats. It takes roughly 24 hours to dry with complete curing being finished in a week. Additionally, the error margin is minimal as there won’t be any brush marks. In terms of varnishing, the application is a much lengthier process. You may require 2-4 coats, between which sanding must occur. Each coat requires 24 hours to dry, but complete curing may take anywhere up to a couple of weeks. Finally, the error margin is wider as you may accidentally cause brush marks, runs or even dust bumps, causing a less polished finish. Therefore, we promote Rubio Monocoat oils and creams, for ease of use.

4. Here at Green Tin Oils, we care deeply about the environment. This is why we believe that Rubio Monocoat products are superior to varnishing. Their formulas are 100% VOC free, made with the renewable base of linseed oil and are certified by ‘Eurofins Indoor Air Comfort Gold’.
